Coaching Since July 2023
With Ballston CrossFit since February 2019
Growing up, I spent most of my time out at the barn riding horses. In middle school I swam on the swim team and rode horses through high school but I was never involved in team sports. It wasn’t until college that I started playing intramural volleyball and ultimate frisbee that I found my competitive drive. During college I would lift some weights, but with no real intention or knowledge base. I first heard about CrossFit around 2013 and was immediately fascinated, but my fear of gymnastics and my distain for cardio kept me on the sidelines. Shortly after college I took a job with the DOD and when I was on my second deployment in 2017 I was introduced to powerlifting. That was the first time I can remember working out, not to look a certain way, but for the sake of being strong. By the end of that deployment I was bench pressing 160lbs and deadlifting 345lbs.
When I moved to Arlington in February of 2019, I couldn’t find a powerlifting gym I liked and decided that I might as well give this CrossFit thing a chance. I had grand plans of dropping in at all of the CrossFit gyms in the area and then choosing my favorite from there. The first gym on my list was Ballston CrossFit so I signed up for their Saturday Free Class. I was terrified. I couldn’t tell you what the workout was or who was in my class, but I remember Coach Brock and how he spoke the CrossFit gospel over me with such conviction. I remember seeing people in the class before me who were so incredibly fit but then seeing other people who were more at my level, all doing the same workout and all looking equally exhausted by the end. I realized then that even though I had no idea what I was doing, CrossFit was for me too. Needless to say, I signed up for Foundations that day and never looked back.
There have been lots of highs and yes, a few lows, but through CrossFit I have gained confidence, learned to grow past my comfort level, and I can say that as a woman in my 30’s I am the fittest I have ever been. There have been lots of milestones and highlights along the way but I will be forever grateful for the BCF community where I have made lifelong friends and even met the love of my life. #BCFLoveMachine. Every day that I show up to BCF, I leave happy that I came.
Ballston CrossFit has given me the environment and the tools to grow my knowledge around nutrition, my capacity as an athlete, and my confidence as an individual, and I am excited to be a part of a coaching staff where I can help others do the same.
