Biography
Hello hello – I’m Cat and I started doing yoga to avoid playing lacrosse. True story! I grew up doing almost any sport you can think of (figure skating, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, taekwondo, track, horseback riding, and field hockey to name a few). I was a state ranked field hockey player, which took up my summers and falls, and played basketball in the winter, so when spring lacrosse rolled around I was not about it. I had attended a few yoga classes at a tiny studio in my even tinier home town and decided I would do yoga during the spring. That was 13 years ago. A few years later, I lived in a tent in the desert for a month and change, studying the rich history of yoga to get my teaching certification and have been actively teaching for over 6 years.
While I’ve moved through different forms of fitness, yoga has been a constant. I’ve practiced Power, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Hatha, and Yin, and I’ve taught Power, Vinyasa, and Yin. My yoga practice has evolved with me over the years and I return to my mat for different reasons – sometimes it’s for physical strength, sometimes for flexibility, and sometimes for mental wellbeing. As I’ve become more involved in CrossFit, yoga has become a more restorative practice for me than it’s ever been. I come to my mat to recover more than to sweat. I started teaching at BCF a little over a year ago and your aches and pains from the week are my aches and pains. The only thing you really need to know about my class is that it’s your hour to do whatever your body needs – if you want to lay in child’s pose for an hour that sounds like time well spent to me! If you want to do a faster flow than I’m teaching, go for it. I strive to make my class a space where people feel empowered to take care of their bodies and minds without fear of judgement.
When I’m not at the gym, I’m spoiling my dachshund mix named Noodle, spending time with friends and family, or engaging in one of the many hobbies I rotate through depending on my mood.
I’ve completed workshops on prenatal yoga and yin yoga and hold the following certifications:
- Yoga Alliance Certified RYT200
- 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training
- Reiki Level II
