Q: How did you find out about Ballston CrossFit and what about it convinced you to join?
I used to get coffee at the Starbucks in the Marymount University building and I would see the members from the 7:30 morning class finishing up. They looked driven, fit, and happy. In November of 2024, I received a Black Friday deal for Foundations. I loved foundations with Brock, Bobby, and Kris! At 43, I had become a weekend warrior at Onelife trying to squeeze everything in on Saturday. CrossFit was a fitness rebirth into something that resembled my fit days of being a personal trainer in my early twenties.

Q: What stopped you from coming in sooner?

I was intimidated. I knew what I was doing in the gym. In the early 2000s I was a team NASM personal trainer, and I had a strong knowledge of weight training. “Why rock the boat” mentality.

Q: When did you start at BCF and what were your goals going into it?

Foundations in December 2024 and officially a member January 1, 2025. I wanted to be fit in every way. I had some muscle tone from weight training as a weekend warrior at a big gym, but that was it. I didn’t have any cardio endurance, coordination, flexibility, motivation, or challenging and fun workouts. I thought it would be cool to do “CrossFit stuff”. It also helps that I thought it would be fun to meet new people.

Q: What has helped you achieve success at BCF?

First – the coaches in every way. From high quality instruction methods, kindness, and their attention to detail, ensuring I have the right technique. Shout out to coaches Brock, Bobby, Kris, and Stacey!

Second – Remembering the principle of progress and not perfection, and not comparing myself to others who have been doing CrossFit for years. Eating more and increasing my protein intake. Talking to my classmates.

Q: Besides working out, what other lifestyle changes did you make outside of the gym to achieve your goals?

Changing my protein intake and taking in more calories.

Q: What is the biggest benefit you have noticed since starting CrossFit both in or out of the gym?

Cardiovascular endurance, stress relief, and increased self-confidence. I take what I’ve learned and share it with the high school students I teach.

Q: What has been your favorite thing about Ballston CrossFit?

The feeling I have when I leave feeling a million times better physically and mentally.

Q: What has your favorite memory related to CrossFit been?

I have 2!

  1. Bring a friend day: I brought my girlfriend, and we had such an amazing time together as partners. It was like the Amazing Race BCF and she was able to see why I love it.
  2. When Coaches Bobby and Kris came to the high school I teach. They had three classes go through a CrossFit workout! My students loved it and it feels great to share this life changing experience with others.

Q: What’s one thing you love about this gym that has nothing to do with working out?

It’s not a big box gym where there are too many people and the gym does not care about you. At BCF, you’re not a number, you’re a person who matters. The coaches know your name, care about your success, and you make friends in your classes. Tucker the owner is all in, and is always trying to make the best better.
