Q: How did you find out about Ballston CrossFit (BCF) and what convinced you to join the gym?
I moved to Arlington after undergrad and starting working out at a local commercial gym. I was used to working out in groups because of college sports and got bored quickly. BCF had great reviews so I decided to give CrossFit a shot!
Q: What stopped you from joining the gym sooner?
I didn’t move to Virginia early enough!
Q: When did you start at BCF and what were your goals you set when you joined the gym?
I started in December 2023! My goals were to make new friends, have fun trying new movements, and put on some muscle.
Q: What has helped you achieve success at BCF?
Finding people around my fitness level and pushing myself against them! The most fun workouts are when you compete with a friend, talk trash when you win, and when you inevitably lose, hype them up all the same.
Q: What advice can you give to others who are new to CrossFit?
Have fun trying new things. Every single person who has done CrossFit has found a movement they’re not naturally good at or feel silly doing – those are the movements you should have the most fun doing!
Q: Besides working out, what other lifestyle changes did you make outside of the gym to achieve your goals?
BCF has helped me with time management. I’ve learned that my weeks don’t feel quite right without exercise, so making sure my schedule is built around getting into the gym on weekdays and weekends is huge.
Q: What is the biggest benefit you have noticed since starting CrossFit (both in and out of the gym)?
I am now confident that if a 20 pound rock were to fall on my head, I would catch it and throw it back into the air roughly 30 times. Huge benefit for day-to-day life.
Q: What has been your favorite thing about BCF?
BCF has the perfect balance of positive support and trash talk to keep any guy happy.
Q: What has been your favorite memory related to CrossFit?
My prosthetic flying off my leg during the Open in 2025. Thanks Ross!
Q: What is one thing you love about this gym that has nothing to do with working out?
Friends!
