I adopted the CrossFit principle of “constantly varied” from a young age without even realizing it. In high school, I could not land on one specific team sport because every choice was too intriguing not to be explored. I spent one to two seasons playing on the soccer, field hockey, golf, cheerleading, track, softball, and lacrosse teams because I loved the idea of learning different ways to exercise and developing dynamic skills. Fast-forward ten years later, I found the sport I would stick with for the long-haul.
CrossFit began as much more than a means to stay fit. It began as the most consistent way I got to spend quality time with my father after he returned from a traumatic deployment overseas. CrossFit later evolved into an answer to the question that I had been dreading ever since I graduated from Virginia Tech. How could I cultivate genuine, refreshing, and fulfilling adult community amidst the “great scattering” reality that we all face once walking across the graduation stage and into uncertain futures? Becoming the fittest and most healthy version of myself — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually became the by-product of reconnecting with my family and gaining an expansive social network, which I learned are the foundations that truly motivate me to exercise and become my best.
I coach so I can share good news about how identifying with a consistent approach to fitness can pay dividends to your holistic health, solving problems you are both aware of and do not even realize exist. I cannot fully explain in words how motivated and honored I am to both lead and share good news with the great people at BCF!
