Ballston CrossFit » FAQ

  • Where is Ballston CrossFit?

We are located at 1110 N Glebe Arlington VA 22201. We are just 4 blocks from the Ballston Metro. We are also just 2 blocks from the Route 66 exits to Ballston (either Glebe Rd.  westbound or Fairfax Dr. eastbound). We have a huge parking garage under our space (discounted $2 validated parking on weekdays 5:00-8:45am and after 4pm and all day on weekends), but we encourage you to walk, run or bike to our box. If you must drive,  there is plenty of street parking within 2-3 blocks of BCF.  There is parking on N. Vernon St. and Vermont Street on the other side of Glebe Rd. as well as parking available near Clarenford Station Park on N. Vernon St and 13th Street (these spaces are not zoned and open parking).
  • Do you have good coaches at BCF? What do members and local media say about BCF?

Absolutely - the best! Over the last few years we have received 4 awards as being one of the best CrossFit gyms in the DC area "Best CrossFit Gym in Arlington" . We are proud to say that our coaching team is highly experienced (and trained) with an intense focus on technique! In addition (and more importantly), in our annual surveys to our members, 100% of BCF members said they would recommend BCF to their family and friends! We also have a 5 star rating on Yelp (and Google and Facebook), you can read our reviews here: Ballston CrossFit Yelp Reviews
  • How big is Ballston CrossFit? Tell me about the box.

BCF is an incredible CrossFit box with 6,000 square feet of retail space in the heart of Ballston. Check out our "virtual 3D tour" to see our facility. We have awesome 17’ high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows around the gym, new equipment (and so much of it that we never run out!), 2 large pull-up bar systems and access to locker rooms with showers. We also are lucky enough to have the bike path less than 100 yards from our space, so we have great access for our running WODs!
  • Does CrossFit really work? Will I get more fit?

Yes, it absolutely works! CrossFit is the best fitness program in the world! Here are a few success stories of deconditioned people getting into great shape very quickly by dedicating themselves to CF workouts and healthy diet (Patrick James lost 107 pounds in 41 weeks!):
  • What is Foundations?

Foundations is our 6 class program that all new CrossFitters must complete prior to joining the main workouts at BCF. In each workout you will warm up, do some mobility work/stretching, learn CrossFit movements and lifts, and then complete a short metcon (the high intensity portion of the workout of the day) based on those movements. These 6 classes are the best way to learn the fundamental movements of CrossFit. If the group classes don't fit your schedule, you can sign up for our private Foundations sessions and we can work around your busy schedule!
  • What is the free class?

Free classes are offered twice a week at BCF (Tuesday at 6:30pm or 7:45pm and Saturday at noon). We offer these classes so you can experience a CrossFit style workout at BCF. No previous CrossFit experience is required to attend these classes. Click here to register for our free class and join in the fun!!
  • Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

No! Our workouts and exercises scale to any level. We have trained professional athletes and Navy SEALS and grandmothers (including Tucker's mom!), and each member is focused on being more fit than they were last week. Click here to learn more about getting started and joining Foundations.
  • What if I’m REALLY out of shape and I’m kind of terrified?

We promise you will be totally fine. Trust us. We have trained people who were slower, bigger, weaker, older, and less coordinated than you are, and they were totally fine. And, more importantly, most of them have greatly enhanced their fitness levels through our CrossFit training!
  • I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?

While we are not physicians, (and we highly recommend you discuss any workout program with yours), we do find that many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, and to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises and tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and again we advise that you consult your physician before starting an exercise program.
  • I’m really fit and would like to skip Foundations and take a Workout of the Day class, can I do that?

No, you must complete Foundations before being allowed to take WOD classes.
  • But what if I’m really, really fit?

No means no. If you are really, really fit, we can scale up the workouts in Foundations for you. We promise we can leave you lying on the floor, sore and gasping during your workout!
  • What if I can’t fit Foundations into my schedule? Do you offer Private Foundations?

Yes. For $300 you can take a completely private Foundations, or you and a friend can do it for $500.
  • I just relocated to Arlington, but I’ve been CrossFitting for so long that I named my kids “Fran” and “Helen.” Can I join as a member and start coming to the WOD classes?

Excellent - welcome to Arlington! Register for our Foundations Test-out and then send us an e-mail to schedule the 1 hour assessment to review your movements (cost = $50).
  • I’m just visiting Arlington, can I drop-in and WOD?

We welcome experienced CrossFitters from all over the world. Just check our class schedule, send us an e-mail letting us know when you are coming and drop-in for a WOD. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork and let your coach know your level of experience with CrossFit training and if you have any limitations. • Do you offer Open Gym time?

In addition to offering the most CrossFit WODs in the area, we also offer Open Gym 7 days a week! This allows you to come in and make-up a WOD you missed, do some additional strength, gymnastics or skill work. Must have a minimum 4 months CF experience and be competent on all lifts. No!! Click below to watch a great video CrossFit women who are in great shape through CrossFit (including lifting weights) and by eating well. We KNOW that weight training improves bone density, weight management (you burn more calories at rest!) and cardiovascular health. Those three things alone could prevent osteoporosis, diabetes and heart disease) should get you so jazzed about weights that you immediately go pick up something heavy! After all, strong is the new skinny!!
